Festival of Walking the Costa Blanca Sierras- Castells
Wednesday 6th April 2022.
All walks start at Castells at various locations and at the end of the walks we plan to all meet for a picnic lunch in the village picnic area by the bridge at the T junction of CV 720 and 752(38.7213285, -0.1960209). There is stone seating for about 60 people (bring a cushion, perhaps), there are a few tables. Walks are planned to finish from 1.30 to 2.15 pm.
Parking is limited in the village so PLEASE Car Share to get to Castells if you can. Walks will start at different locations in the village using different parking areas for
each walk.

Walk 1. Easy Stroll/ Walk. Start time 11.15 am
Leaders: Richard and Hazel Marsden. Tel 4407813039810. E/A. 4.75km, 217m ascent, 2 hours. Starting Point and parking. Junction of CV 720 and 752 (38.7213285, -0.1960209) in the village. This walk will take us up to the Zona Recreativa, El Castellet at an easy pace before returning to the picnic area.
Walk 2. Moderate walk, Start time 10.30 am
Leader Peter Greene tel 620 319 797. Starting point and parking. 38.72692, -0.19378. Cemetery Car park, Castells. M/B, 9km, 300m ascent, 3hours. Walk from the car park up a Mozarabic trail to a broad track continuing with fantastic views.
Walk 3. Moderately Strenuous, Start time 10 am
Leader John Mail and Clodagh Brown Tel 965846505. Starting point and parking. 38.72692, -0.19378. Cemetery Car park, Castells. MS/B, 11km, 460m ascent, 4 hours. Varied circular walk along the Barranc de les Foies and up to La Llacuna, mostly on good tracks, with a short riverbed section and a nice Mozarabic path back down to the village for picnic lunch.
Walk 4. Strenuous. Starting time 9.30 am

Long. -0.201783 on CV720 from direction Benichembla – immediately before entering Castell de Castells turn sharp right near bins, downhill past old washhouse, at bottom near sheep pens and bin compound turn left and park here.
14 kms. 600 mtrs. S / BA circular undulating route , Els Rabossos , Els Racons , El Freginals and culminating at ‘Picnic Lunch’ venue. Mostly marked paths / tracks with extensive varied views (castellet visit – time permitting), short return to cars after lunch. NO DOGS
winds back down to Castells.
Walk 5. Moderately Strenuous/Strenuous. Starting time 10 am.
Leader Ralph Phipps tel +447927621421. Starting point and parking 38.72793, -0.19727. Lay-by on CV720 as you approach, and just before, Castells from Benichembla it’s on the right. La Llacuna and Los Planes d’Alt. MS/B. Ascent 480m, 13km, 4 hours. A walk up the flanks of Aixorta and across to the Clot de Llacuna returning on an easy path to the village.
