PLEASE BE AWARE THAT WE DO NOT HAVE PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE.
We strongly recommend that individuals who walk with CBMW take out insurance cover for rescue and medical costs in case of an accident on our mountain walks. You could take out insurance via www.femecv.com (in Spanish), but many other companies offer similar cover to mountain walkers. We are not recommending any particular company but are simply giving general advice on what sort of cover may be available.
If you are just visiting the area for a holiday you should check that your travel insurance cover is sufficient – if not then take out extra cover!
If you were to become a member of the Austrian Alpine Club (UK) as an example, then all current members are covered by the AWS rescue and repatriation service during their membership year. The ÖAV insurance policies are provided by Austrian companies and governed by Austrian law. For a summary of cover provided by AWS please click here: Alpenverein Worldwide Service (AWS) providing Annual Rescue and Repatriation Insurance. The devil is in the detail and you are strongly advised to ensure that whichever policy you choose to take out, it covers for what you think you will require.
The AWS cover is primarily for mountain rescue, it is NOT comprehensive travel insurance.
