It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Charles Pye, who passed away on Sunday 24th July.
He had been diagnosed with Renal cancer which was untreatable. He gave up the fight and died quietly and peacefully (Kath’s words).
Charles started walking with the group over 20 years ago.
From the beginning he was always a strong character/individual, and became a stalwart of the Costa Blanca Mountain Walkers, renowned for his strong opinions and views (he never pulled his punches).
Over the years he became well respected for his continuing knowledge of the mountains.
He was a leader for many years, introducing many new walks most of which were S or VS category. He also encouraged new leaders by passing on his walks over the years, one of which was renamed ‘The three banana walk’ due to its severity.
He will be remembered with respect, fondness and affection. A very individual and private person, (and with a good sense of humour) who gained the respect and friendship from all who knew him.
All our condolences to Kath and their son and daughter.
